Why We Gather

Allah says:

"This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they may reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding may take heed." (Qur'an 38:29)

And He says:

"And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers." (Qur'an 51:55)

At Sisters Qur'an Reflection Circle, these two beautiful verses are at the heart of our mission.

We gather because the Qur'an is a blessed Book deserving of reflection, contemplation, and understanding. It was not revealed merely to be recited, but to be pondered, lived, and allowed to shape our hearts, our and our relationship with Allah.

Together, we slow down and reflect upon Allah's words, uncover the wisdom within His verses, and explore how His guidance applies to our everyday lives. Through meaningful discussion and shared reflection, we seek not only to increase in knowledge, but to grow in faith, gratitude, humility, and God-consciousness.

We also gather because reminders are a mercy from Allah. No matter where we are in our journey, we all benefit from being reminded of our purpose, our Creator, and the guidance He has sent for us. As sisters, we encourage one another, learn from one another, and walk this path together.

Our hope is that every gathering brings us one step closer to Allah, one step deeper in our understanding of His Book, and one step further in transforming knowledge into action.

May Allah make the Qur'an the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, and the guide of our lives.

The Study of Surah Al Qayyimah

In this surah, we learned one of the reasons people persist in sin and wrongdoing. Allah, the Creator of mankind, beautifully explains that many people become heedless because they forget their accountability before Him and the certainty of standing before their Lord on the Day of Judgment. When a person loses sight of that meeting with Allah, it becomes easier to follow desires and neglect His commands.

Allah says:

"Does man think that he will be left neglected (without being held accountable)?"
— Qur'an 75:36
And He also says:

"Rather, man desires to continue in sin. He asks, 'When is the Day of Resurrection?'"
— Qur'an 75:5–6
These verses remind us that true reform begins when we remember that every word, deed, and intention is known to Allah and that we will all return to Him for judgment. May Allah make us among those who remain mindful of our accountability and steadfast in obedience to Him. Ameen.

Here is an example of what our community potluck looks like, can't wait to celebrate many more together inshAllah!

In this post-Ramaḍān reflection halaqah, we explore the deeper purpose of fasting through Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185). Was fasting just about hunger and thirst—or was it shaping something far greater within us? Together, we reflect on how Ramaḍān connects us to the Qur’an as a source of guidance, how fasting nurtures taqwā (God-consciousness), and how taqwā leads to a purified and sound heart—the very thing that will benefit us on the Day of Judgment. This interactive session invites you to think: What truly changed in your heart during Ramaḍān? And how can we carry those transformations forward? Topics covered: The Qur’an as guidance (Hudan lil-naas) The purpose of fasting: attaining taqwā Developing a sound heart (qalb saleem) The spiritual transformation of Ramaḍān Allah’s intention of ease in our عبادات (acts of worship) Let this be a reminder that Ramaḍān was not an end—but a beginning.

Allah Made Firʿawn an Example, What Lessons Can We Learn?

The Qur'an is not merely recounting history; it presents real examples so that we may reflect and avoid the mistakes of those who came before us.

Reflection Question

If Allah has made Firʿawn an example for those who fear standing before Him, what qualities or actions in our own lives might resemble the arrogance, heedlessness, or self-reliance that led to Firʿawn's destruction?

A powerful companion verse from the same surah is:

"But as for the one who feared standing before his Lord and restrained himself from his desires, then indeed Paradise will be his refuge." (Qur'an 79:40–41)

ShanAllah, the surah begins with the example of Firʿawn, who followed his desires and was destroyed, and concludes with the example of the believer who restrains his desires out of fear of Allah and is granted Paradise. This contrast is one of the beautiful themes of Surah An-Nāziʿāt. 🤍📖

Allah Made Firʿawn an Example

Lessons from Surah Abasa

In Surah ʿAbasa, Allah reminds mankind of how easily people become heedless and ungrateful despite the countless blessings He has bestowed upon them. To awaken the human heart, Allah asks a powerful question:

"From what substance did He create him?" (Qur'an 80:18)

Allah then answers the question Himself:

"From a drop of sperm, He created him and destined for him his way." (Qur'an 80:19)

These verses remind us of our humble origin. Human beings, who often become proud, self-sufficient, and forgetful of their Creator, were created from something insignificant. Yet Allah nurtured them, guided them, provided for them, and prepared the means for their survival. Despite all of this, many people remain ungrateful and fail to fulfill the purpose for which they were created.

A beautiful connection in this passage is that Allah first reminds us of where we came from, then directs us to what sustains us, and finally reminds us of where we are going. The message is clear: the One who created us, sustains us, and will resurrect us is most deserving of our gratitude, worship, and complete submission.

From What Substance Were You Created?

Sisters Circle was established with a simple goal: to create a welcoming space where sisters can come together to deepen their understanding of Allah's Book,

Each session focuses on a selected surah or passage of the Qur'an. Together, we read, reflect, ask questions, and explore the wisdom contained within Allah's words.

Our Approach

Each session focuses on a selected surah or passage of the Qur'an. Together, we read, reflect, ask questions, and explore the wisdom contained within Allah's words.

Participants take turns reading the verses in either Arabic or English, whichever they are most comfortable with, before collectively unpacking and discussing the meanings and lessons of the passage.

Our studies draw primarily from authentic tafsīr sources, including Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr, while also benefiting from the insights of contemporary scholars and teachers who help make the Qur'an accessible and relevant to modern life.
